As an honors society established for aspiring teachers, Kappa Delta Pi is a community service-oriented organization that positively impacts children in the community. Enrolled students in the Irvin School of Education who meet the criteria for membership are invited to join this organization. Members of Kappa Delta Pi strive for excellence in and out of the classroom

Peyten Castillo, Vice President of KDP, shared, “We hold ourselves to a high standard as we will eventually become leaders and role models to children in all walks of life.”

Kappa Delta Pi students organized a food drive.Peyten has been a member of this organization for two years. She explained that KDP helped her connect with other teachers in ways she never had before. “We are able to communicate with teachers from around the world and get advice to better our students,” she explained. Furthermore, through community service, Peyten has stepped out of her comfort zone and connected on a deeper level with the people around her. She is confident that she has what it takes to become a great teacher with the assistance of KDP.

A unique aspect of KDP stems from the desire to make a positive change in their students and everyone they come across. Members of KDP are equipped to put everything they can into their students to ensure they reach their greatest potential.

Some past events organized by Kappa Delta Pi include a book drive for Ortiz Elementary and a food drive for the food pantry at HSU. Furthermore, the group volunteered at Love and Care Ministries, making care packs for children and raising money to help distribute Thanksgiving meals to families at the Local Day Nurseries.

They plan to host a booth at the Ortiz Family Night, offering engaging activities for children. Additionally, the group is set to join the Autism Walk at Red Bud Park and work with Love and Care Ministries to assemble care packs for children in need. They will also be crafting blankets to be donated to individuals who could benefit from them.
